Came in with my guy Saturday night for some oysters, this was our first visit. Definitely will be back! Fresh large oysters with a tangy horseradish, perfect temp on the shrimp cocktail, frog legs were also meaty (my first time trying them and loved them!), and out of curiosity I tried the flash fried banana peppers with the garlic boursin- they were exactly how our server described them... FOH was extremely inviting from the warm greeting from the bartender as we made our way to the smiling hostess who seated us promptly without any hesitation as she was fully prepared as to where to seat us. The utility greeted us as she filled the water and Helen our dynamic server was on point answering our questions and touching on all points of service. As someone in the service industry, I appreciate staff that works together fluidly. Kudos to the chefs and the gentleman that prepared our oysters. Can't wait to visit again soon! Thank you for leaving a great memory :)

After some fun filled water activities, come to this quintessential speak easy joint nestled in Grosse Pointe. You walk in and you're greeted with a blast back to the past. It feels as old timer gangsters hung out here. It's so classy, we felt so under dressed when we walked in. Next time I'll wear something with a collar. The reason why I wanted to come through is because they had a geeky selection of oysters. We were tagging along an oyster virgin as well. Their oyster rockefeller is a good start for people who are more of a texture eater rather than a flavor eater. So we did half dozen half shells, rockefeller and a calamari to share. All the dishes were on point,, specially the rockefeller. The half shells were amazing... they do have an assortment of different oysters coming from different regions as well. I'm not an oyster geek, so I had the chef's preference. Couldn't remember what it was, but I always enjoy and freshly shucked oyster. The calamari is pretty good as well, but i focus more into the good stuff. Come here for a brew or two and have some oysters,,, cooked or raw they are absolutely sensational. The staff is great, our server us a sweetheart and very knowledgeable. She was very attentive and loved to talk and took good care of us. Heck,, even the guy at the bar said hello when we walked in. THAT my friend is customer service. I'll be back, trust me on that. This place is just a pleasant place to be. Life is too short to eat boring food. I brought my sister to Rockefeller's for my second visit. We arrived and were greeted by a smiling hostess before parking ourselves at the bar. The bar was about half full as was the restaurant - I thought it would be a lot more busy, and the bartender later mentioned that it was the slowest friday she'd ever worked! We ordered drinks and food - a shrimp/mushroom dish that was cheesy and good, a half dozen oysters on the half shell, the cream of onion soup, and the steamed mussels. Overall, the food was tasty and fresh, and the service was attentive and friendly. I was excited to have the cream of onion soup again, but I was disappointed when it arrived lukewarm. There were two soggy pieces of toasted white bread accompanying the mussels - I could have gone for a bit more pizzaz there. I really loved the oysters! $3 a piece and there were a few varieties available. $84 before tip for four drinks and the food we shared - they had an awesome pianist/singer who happily played two New York themed tunes for my sister who lives in NYC - she found Rockefeller's to be quite charming.

I walked in and saw a bass player, immediately (the duo was impeccable). A singer of the Sinatra, Martin, jazz standard etc style. Awesome. Lobster bisque was great. Cosmos were strong and tasty. Cole slaw was a bit too rich for our tastes at my table. The berry cobbler arrived warm, good flavor but oddly textured. The atmosphere of this old-fashioned oyster bar-type place won my heart over big time. Doesn't hurt that the server gave us the low-down on the place's history, along with the plans for the block. There are many great food options on the menu-- I was almost overwhelmed!

Overall, the service and atmosphere were lovely, but unfortunately the food did not match. To begin, the price of the food seems to be at two different price points: burgers and sandwiches seem very reasonable at roughly $10/ .5 lbs burger. The entrees begin at roughly 15 dollars for a vegetarian meal all the way up to 25 dollars for a meal with seafood. Coors begins at 4 dollars with any other beers increasing in price. Wine begins around 8 dollars/glass. The food appears to be up to snuff but upon further inspection, it would seem as if corners have been cut. The calamari is in a great sauce but itself is rubbery. The salads (spinach and ceasar) were large portions but with low quality lettuce. The burger did not seem to be the half pound (as advertised) and tasted old to the point of inedible. Overall, the whole meal felt overpriced and low quality. With a convenient location and dynamite atmosphere, rockefellers might be a good place to grab a drink but should not be a contender for dinner.

  • Ben E.

Went in recently with another couple and we didn't feel the value matched the price. The food is just ok, but to be fair we only tried a few things (perch and oysters). The salads were drenched in dressing, the clam chowder came cold and they brought the food all at once - not salad/soup first and then main course which is quite annoying. The wait staff is extremely nice but stumbled on some basic questions which was odd (eg. what kind of oysters do you have?) The food menu is poorly structured and has you flipping from front to back quite a bit. Overall it was quite underwhelming and didn't live up to the strong reviews I'd read. The cherry on top was the bill, which solidified we won't be returning. If you do go and get oysters, don't waste your time with any of them but the bluepointe.

Stopped in here on a Thursday afternoon after work for some happy hour goods. Handsome decor, live jazz music for happy hour, laid back vibe -- I ordered the fried oyster (not on the happy hr menu, but very willing to pay regular price) and it was just as good as I expected. I also had the lobster & shrimp stuffed portabella mushroom (on the happy hr menu). It was very good, also. After a glass of wine and a couple of martinis before happy hour ended, I was set. I took a peek at their dinner menu and everything sounded delicious. It was really nice and I plan to go back more often!

This place is great!!! We drove 40 min to come here and it was well worth it. The food was really good and so was the service. I would most definitely return and also recommend. They also have live music everyday and it's nothing crazy just perfect! Perfect for a date night.

My husband and I used a Groupon for this place. The first and now only time we will be patronizing this establishment. We paid $45 for our groupon. When we presented our groupon before ordering we were shown where and what we could order on the menu. OK. Not my favorite way of doing things but what the heck. So 2 entrees and an appetizer. Anyway, we had steak for dinner. One Ribeye and one NY strip. Bad. The cheapest cuts of those types of steak I had ever seen. We ordered a side of broccoli. Wet, soggy and lukewarm. All of our food was sub par. HUGE baked potatoes that were ridiculous. I guess we got the giant potatoes to fill us up from the measly bites of non gristle or non fat meat from our steaks. The live music going on was nice. Service was ok. Even though the waitress should have been embarrassed to bring that crap to our table. I feel that we got the "Coupon" meal treatment. We won't be going back. Period. There is a new place now next door. BBQ. Bootleggers, Pig and Whiskey Bar. Owned by the same people. There is a groupon available for that place as well. I won't be going there either. I feel that I cannot trust the business model. Maybe it is ok to sit at the bar and listen to the musicians, have a beer or something. Funny that some people feel the place is "classy". Not so. It is an ok atmosphere, though somewhat loud in the dining area. Decor Meh. I think you should not show your Groupon or any coupon until AFTER you order and eat. Let me know how it goes for you.

My dad and I visited Rockefellers on a Saturday night. It was quite busy but we were seated right away by the owner himself! We had the mussels and spinach artichoke dip for hors d'ourves. Both were amazing, however there were not that many mussels. For dinner I had the portabella goat cheese burger which was absolutely life changing. The "burger" is the massive portabella mushroom, not meat, so don't be confused. My taste buds have never been happier! For drinks, both the mojito and cosmo were delicious and beautifully presented. The only bad thing I can say is that our waitress was extremely slow and inattentive.

So new they aren't on Yelp yet but same owner and just next door is Bootleggers!! AWESOME! BBQ, pulled chicken, pulled pork red beans and rice. Live music and a whole lot of whiskey!!! Smoked sausage and deep fried bacon! Man oh man!!!!

I've been here a total of three times in the past couple of months & each time has been excellent! The staff is very friendly, the ambiance is inviting & cozy, the menu is expansive enough to please the pickiest eater, AND the food is delectable! Sunday brunch, happy hour specials, sushi, and featured specials are always on point!

I was so happy to be back inside this place. I live only a short ways away, and used to frequent it when it was Tom's Oyster Bar, and then when it became Dylan's. I was very pleased to find that they hadn't changed the 20's-saloon-style interior much. The seats are more comfortable, and for some reason it didn't feel as cramped as it used to, but otherwise everything was very much the same. Looks like they're going back to the nautical theme Tom's held. Our server was very energetic, charming, and attentive. We ordered local craft beers, house red, and a couple of martinis. All fantastic, great selection. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, Calamari, and Lobster Mac & Cheese. Absolutely delicious, though it did take a while to get to us. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Linguini. Now comes the only issue we had for the entire night. Our entrees took ridiculously long to get to us. Maybe close to 45 minutes or more. Our waiter stopped by every few minutes to check on us and let us know that it wouldn't be much longer. The table next to us ended up leaving before their meals could be served. Our waiter was very apologetic, and to be honest, we were having such a nice time that we weren't upset about it. On top of that, this place just opened. There are bound to be kinks. We get it. Finally, our entrees began to arrive. Only problem, there was a mixup in which half of our meals went to the wrong table. So while half of us were served, the other half would have to wait another 5 minutes. No biggie, really. Again, working out the kinks. We share meals, anyways. Needless to say, the rest of our meals arrived as promised. And boy, were they delicious. Absolutely wonderful. My smoked salmon linguini didnt skimp on the salmon or the flavor. I only wish I had a piece of bread to sop up some of the sauce. And my favorite part of the night was when the head chef made an appearance at our table to personally apologize for the delay, and to buy us a full round of drinks. Yes, the delay was long. Kinks. The atmosphere, service and food were outstanding. We'll definitely be back.

Enjoyed an excellent experience celebrating a birthday last night. The salmon and the perch was delivered with an excellent presentation and tasted wonderful! The drinks were superb and the music was wonderful as well. This restaurant is wonderful and certainly a 5 star on every aspect. Well done!

I was a fan of Dylan's and was sad when they closed so I was really excited when Rockefeller's opened up in the space. I've been 5 times now - enough to get a feel for the place. First - they barely changed the interior - which is fine - I like going because it's close to my house and they have sushi. 1st visit was really crowded - the waitress said it would be 45 minutes for our sushi so we ordered the crab nachos to tide us over. Big mistake. There were literally 8 chips with crab and cheese on them for $8.95, that's a buck a chip!, we cracked up. One night I tried the beef tips, also not good, overcooked and a soggy baguette. Recently I tried the oysters renaud, they were good, my friend said her crab louie was not as good as Dylan's version, so things are hit & miss. I think their entrees are overpriced. My most recent experience was not good, dining with 2 friends, our order came out in shifts, first my salad, then my entree, a bit later one friends entree, we're done now, our other friend is still waiting for her entree. Not good! We had concert plans, really messed up the rhythm of our evening. And - I went for the sushi only to be told the sushi chef wasn't there - so no sushi. Also they were out of the wine I ordered. So - hopefully they can do better next time, but if not, I'll probably stop going except for the 1/2 price sushi, which is now only going to be T,F,S 4-6 and all day Sunday.

Adding to my review from last week, the service was so bad, that I scratched out the 20% tip my husband wrote and made it 10% . This was clear on my bill! Now that I have reviewed my credit card statement, I see the waitress still entered the tip amount that was purposely crossed out; I think that is theft! I have filed a grievance with my credit card company.

Atmosphere really did not change from when it was Dylan's. Fresh coat of paint and the floors were refinished. Other than that the same. We had calamari, lobster bisque , stuffed mushroom, Spinach salad, two drinks and the bill was $75. I thought a very steep price for what we got and the quality of the food was mediocre and over-salted. Noise level is extremely loud in the restaurant Will not dine there again

Most definitely entertained. I really enjoyed the music style and presentation. You are all truly artists in every sense of the word. I would also like to recommend Rockefeller's. The service and atmosphere was wonderful and the food was prepared well and they had one of my favorite drinks in stock.

BRING THE OLD SUSHI CHEF BACK. When we used to go here the main item ordered by everyone was the sushi (back when it was Dylans). I am told they have sushi on the weekends but are asking $18 for specialty rolls and it's not the same person making them. The food we had was just ok. Bad artichoke dip, ok mussels, and bad martinis. The menu is starting to reflect that of a typical bar with predominately fried food. My advice to the owner is to stop advertising on yelp, metro time and everywhere else and to put your marketing dollars toward people in GP. Most people are not going to drive across town to come here to eat but locals will fill it every night if you improve the food and drinks. The sushi that was offered was great for the area and was a good value. Bring it back.

We were excited when this neighborhood place reopened since we were Dylan's regulars for years. The food is average but way overpriced and management doesn't seem to care. If you're coming for average sushi and don't mind paying $36 for 2 rolls, go ahead. Otherwise I'd recommend blufin or TN Thai bistro for sushi. We haven't been for 2 months since the last time it took over one unapologetic hour for our food. Figured we'd give it another shot tonight, but was thoroughly disappointed in he raise in prices. Food wasn't bad, but there are way too many good options in the area now that care enough about he customers to deserve your money. So spend it there, vs. this average, overpriced restaurant. I always want to support local business, so fortunately there are others to go to

We came in for brunch today not realizing the buffet was $26.95 plus $20 for bottomless mimosas or bloody Marys. A bit steep but the quality is very good and if you like to try lots of different things, it's money well spent. There are many items to choose from and we started with smoked salmon and shrimp. The shrimp were excellent and I loved the salmon rolled into little flowers until I found they were standing in mustard. Huh? Salmon, cream cheese, onion and capers and bagels is one of my favorite combos...with mustard, gross in my opinion. Our wonderful server was able to bring from the kitchen some salmon without the mustard which was excellent and a nice start to the meal. There was a salad station which looked good but we proceeded to the breakfast items...potatoes, bacon, sausage all good. The French Toast was basic but very flavorful. My favorite item was prime rib on top of potatoes and onions topped with perfectly cooked poached eggs..amazing. There was also breaded chicken wings and a fish and a few other items including an omelet station that we did not try. The meal was very relaxing, listening to live music, sipping mimosas and our server aways checking in, filling glasses and clearing plates. The dessert table had chocolate cake and cookies, neither very impressive but the bread pudding and rice pudding were both very good though for the money, I thought they could do a better dessert table. We would definitely come back for another special occasion brunch!

I'd like to start my review by saying that I was a big fan of Dylan's, the business that was in the space before. That being said, I had very high expectations considering the menu is very similar and Dylan's also had "half off sushi Sundays". Dylan's never disappointed, the food was AMAZING. We went to Rockefellers this past Sunday for the sushi, had a couple of appetizers, and some wine. Their wine selection is very limited, but whatever. The apps were good. The sushi was less than good, it was ok. Like how Kroger sushi is ok. Yes, I realize that it's half off, but come on. Our server asked how everything was, I made a face and grumbled, "ok?" Then he ran away and didn't come back until he dropped the check, leaving dirty dishes, etc. I really, really want to like and support new businesses, especially when they're not corporate. I also want to enjoy my meal when I drop $100. A real disappointment.

Great atmosphere and awesome food. We spent the evening sampling different varieties of oyster and had a fabulous time. The chef came to our table and told us everything we needed to know about the oysters on the menu, salinity, size and firmess and taste. Yum!

I visited Rockefellers from the West Coast while visiting family. Uncle told me it just opened last week. I ordered the fried Chesapeake oysters (fried is the only way I eat them) and they were the best I've had outside of New Orleans. The mini crab cakes and greens were a hit as well. I can go on and on but I definitely recommend Rockefellers Oyster Bar.
